Sourav Ganguly or Rahul Dravid: Gavaskar Says Both Top Choice for India Coach

Two former captains, two legends of Indian Cricket and two players who have played all the formats of the game - Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid are two names that are doing the rounds as the BCCI gets set to choose its replacement for Duncan Fletcher, the current coach of the Indian Cricket team.
Mr Sunil Gavaskar, probably the most respected voice in Indian Cricket spoke to NDTV about the prospect of Dada and Jammy taking the post of India's next Coach saying 'First and foremost I think they've got to be available. Both would be terrific choices for the Indian Coaches job. Both are leaders, both are good thinkers of the game, both have performed at the highest level, both have played in all the formats of the game, so I think that would be absolutely fantastic for Indian cricket.' (Team India Needs Two Coaches, Says Dean Jones)

So assuming both Dravid and Ganguly are available to choose from who would Mr Gavaskar pick?
'That's a tough one. Just like you have a Captain and a Vice Captain maybe I will make one a coach and one a Vice Coach or assistant Coach. I'll get both of them if both are available. Honestly, if both these guys are available then I certainly would never want to miss on that experience, that expertise that these two great servants of Indian cricket will bring to the Indian team.'
Former Australian Cricketer Dean Jones asked Gavaskar 'Would the BCCI ever contemplate having two coaches, one for the test matches and one for the limited overs?'
'Certainly not straightaway but if you find it is getting a little bit difficult for the coach then they might look at it but that hasn't been done so far by any team because the schedules are such that there is ample time between the different formats for the coaches to be able to focus on that to look at the players who are likely to do well in that particular format' said Gavaskar.
The big question is how the BCCI really thinks when it comes to appointing the Coaches. Does the BCCI seek the opinion of the senior players and Captain when appointing the Coach?
Jones asked Gavaskar 'How important is the feedback of the players saying I like Coach A more than Coach B?'
'I'm not too sure that's the way to go. That's like asking a student who his examiner should be. I'm not too sure that that is the way to go because they would obviously want guys who they will be able to somehow, at least the Captain, they'll be able to somehow have a little bit more influence on.' said Gavaskar.
While the debate over Ganguly or Dravid could go on till the cows come home one thing is for certain, Greg Chappell won't be the next Indian coach.
